Client Help

Within this client help area, you will find answers to FAQs, a Payroll & Salary Guide and a list of useful links for employers outlining staff entitlements including statutory leave and employment contracts.

How do I pay a new employee?

For all private household positions, we suggest you use a specialist domestic staff payroll service such as Stafftax or Nannytax.

Candidates hired for roles within a corporation will need to be added to the payroll of the organisation itself.

How much should I pay my staff?

We have put together a comprehensive salary guide covering how much you can expect to pay candidates across all private staff roles. It also addresses the frequency of salary payments, sick leave, maternity leave, pensions and whether you should negotiate a candidate’s salary in net or gross figures.

Could my chosen candidate travel with me?

In most cases, a candidate will be happy to travel with you when required. It is wise to indicate an expected level of travel within any advertising of the role.

Will my Nanny do any housekeeping?

A degree of housekeeping is expected within Nanny roles, such domestic tasks would fall under the remit of ‘nursery duties’.

Nursery duties would usually cover any housekeeping that was purely related to the children, such as children’s laundry, making their beds and preparing/clearing away after meals.

If you require general housekeeping help or any meal preparation for adults, this should be clarified with the agency to ensure the role is advertised correctly. A Nanny/Housekeeper would be a better fit for your household if your requirements for childcare and general housekeeping were equal.

Can I specify when my staff take annual leave?

It would be reasonable to request an employee takes their annual leave at a time that is convenient for your household. For example, it would be appropriate to ask a Tutor or Housekeeper to take any leave during school holidays if you are not expecting to be in residence. Or perhaps for yacht crew to only take leave in low-season or during a shipyard period.

In the interest of retaining your staff member long term, we always suggest a level of flexibility (where possible) for occasions such as weddings or similar family events/celebrations that your staff member may wish to attend.

Do I pay a recruitment fee if I don’t hire a candidate?

There is no placement fee to pay if you choose not to offer a position to any of our candidates. However, we suggest you only formally offer a role (by issuing an offer letter) once you are absolutely sure of your decision.

Please note, as per our Terms of Business, an admin fee is payable should a formal offer be withdrawn. It is absolutely essential that you are completely confident when making an offer, particularly on such occasions where your chosen candidate is required to give notice to a current employer.

If you choose to trial a candidate/multiple candidates for a period longer than 14 days, a small trial fee will apply. This is invoiced as a temporary placement.

Am I offered a free replacement if there is a problem?

Yes, a free replacement guarantee is in place for occasions where you would like to make a change. The guarantee is accessible for 16 weeks from the candidate’s start date.

Could the agency attend a meeting to discuss the role?

We always encourage face to face client meetings whenever possible. It provides us with a greater understanding of the role and the household, office or yacht set-up. It also gives us the opportunity to view any accommodation for live-in positions.

Will my chosen candidate have a criminal record check?

All childcare candidates must hold an Enhanced DBS certificate before they can be placed into a role.

If you are hiring a candidate who is not responsible for childcare but would like them to have a background check, please let us know. We have partnered with a DBS provider, who process the correct level of background check depending on a candidate’s profession. A DBS certificate is valid for 3 years, however, we advise our candidates to opt for automatic annual renewal.

Do the agency provide employee contracts?

We are an introductory service only and are not able to provide a contract of employment. However, we are always happy to arrange an unbranded standard template for your use or suggest a suitable service where a legal professional can produce one for you.

Can I call the agency for support once I have hired a candidate?

We are available to assist you after the placement of any candidate. Please call or email anytime, we are always here to help.

Do the agency provide temporary staff?

We provide a wide range of temporary staff, including chefs, nannies, tutors, maternity nurses, housekeepers and yacht crew (to name a just a few). We can also arrange temporary PA support and security/close protection services. Please visit our Temporary & Seasonal Staff page for more information.

What sort of help could be provided virtually?

Please visit our Lifestyle Collection page to see the list of services that are available to you on a virtual or semi-remote basis. Alternatively, please call us on +44 (0)208 402 9616.

What are the agency fees?

Fee structures for permanent and temporary placements are explained within our Terms of Business. Please call or email to discuss your requirements and receive a tailored quote.

Could a candidate complete a trial before I offer them the position?

In many situations, it is possible for a candidate to complete a short trial before receiving a formal offer of employment. Trials are free of charge in all circumstances where a permanent placement is made.

To avoid ongoing and lengthy trials, if you choose to trial an applicant/multiple applicants for a period longer than 14 days and decide not to offer the position to one of our candidates, a trial fee will apply. This will be billed as a temporary placement.
