The role of a Governess

Our childcare desk provides candidates for Nanny, Nanny/Housekeeper, Mother’s Help, Maternity Nurse and Governess roles.
Candidates must have an Enhanced DBS certificate, Paediatric First Aid certificate, experience with the relevant age group and any formal qualifications stipulated by the client such as MNT, BTEC, NVQ or NNEB.

We represent exceptional candidates for part-time and full-time positions from a private tutor several days a week, to a travelling Governess who will accompany their charge around the globe.
In addition to providing expert childcare, a Governess can also provide tutoring sessions in specific subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, languages or music.

What is the average salary for a Governess?

The salary of a Governess Tutor will ultimately depend on the candidates level of experience and frequency of travel required.  The average salary for a full-time Travelling Governess is £70,000.00+ per annum, however, this salary will of course differ depending on individual requirements.

What duties can a Governess perform?

The role of a Governess Tutor
  • A Governess is responsible for the care of children between 3 months and 18 years of age. Until their charge is 24 months, their title is generally Nanny/Governess
  • A Governess may assist with nursery duties (housekeeping associated purely to the children in their charge)
  • Responsible for the safety of the children within their care at all times whilst on duty
  • A Governess will generally travel with the family whenever required
  • A Governess will maintain the wardrobe of their charge. Ensuring clothing that has been outgrown is removed and the wardrobe is rotated seasonally
  • Packing and unpacking of suitcases (children’s cases only)
  • Proxy parent and act as a sole-charge carer when required
  • Tutoring in specific subjects such as reading, writing, languages or music

What is the agency's candidate vetting process?
