Chef/House Manager

Fully negotiable|South-West France|Permanent, Live-in

We are looking for an experienced Chef/House Manager for a position in South-West France. You will be overseeing the running of a large estate with extensive grounds.

Principals enjoy a variety of cuisine and are keen to ensure their children explore new ingredients and flavours.

You will be taking over in an established role. The current Chef is relocating back to the UK at the end of September and will ensure you have a few days’ handover before you take the reins.

Candidates must have a high standard of cooking and a large repertoire of family-style and fine dining dishes. It is essential that applicants can speak French to a conversational level, in order to liaise with suppliers, shop at local markets, manage general household admin and oversee additional staff and contractors.

Preferred cuisines include; Mediterranean dishes, salads, grains, fresh fruit/vegetables, sushi & sashimi, Indian, Japanese, Thai. The family are keen cooks and enjoy a variety of worldwide cuisine with an emphasis on a healthy and balanced diet.

This is a wonderful opportunity in the centre of one of the biggest winemaking regions in France. It would suit a candidate who enjoys a more rural location (1 hour from Bordeaux).

The family travels extensively during the school holidays and are not in residence all year. You are not asked to travel within your role, however, a level of flexibility is required.

Accommodation: An apartment is provided for you locally.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include the following:

  • Cooking for a family of four, including 2 young children
  • Shopping & provisioning
  • Stocktaking & rotation
  • Managing a large property of 35 acres
  • Managing external contractors & private household staff
  • Gatekeeping/overseeing the general security of the estate

Key requirements

To be suitable for this role, you must be/have:

  • Extensive Chef experience
  • Private household, superyacht or luxury chalet experience required
  • Household management experience
  • Conversational French
  • Clean driving licence
  • DBS certificate
  • Applicants must be available from Sept/early Oct 2020
