This is a permanent, year-round appointment offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced gardener seeking a stable and rewarding long-term position in Mallorca. The principal is keen to appoint someone who will take genuine pride and ownership in the estate and ideally remain with the property for many years.

The Estate & Gardens

The grounds extend to approximately 15,000m² and are predominantly laid to lawn, much of which is maintained using automated lawn-care equipment. Beyond the lawns, there are extensive planted and tended beds incorporating established Mediterranean planting and landscaping.

The estate is also home to more than 100 mature palm trees. Specialist maintenance of the palms is undertaken by external contractors, with the gardener responsible for the day-to-day presentation, health and overall care of the wider gardens and grounds.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for ensuring that the estate remains beautifully presented throughout the year, working proactively and with a good understanding of the seasonal requirements of a Mediterranean garden.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

The role will include the general care and maintenance of the gardens and grounds; tending planted beds, shrubs and Mediterranean planting; pruning, planting, feeding and seasonal garden work; monitoring irrigation and general plant health; maintaining immaculate outdoor areas; and identifying maintenance requirements before they become problems.

The gardener will also liaise with and provide appropriate oversight of external specialist contractors working within the grounds.

In addition to the gardening responsibilities, the position will involve a limited key-holding and estate oversight element. When the principal is away, the gardener may occasionally be asked to provide a reassuring presence at the property, assist with gatekeeping and maintain general awareness of activity across the estate. This may also include light oversight when guests are staying in the separate casita in the principal’s absence.

This is not intended to be a formal property-management position; rather, the client is looking for a trusted, responsible individual who naturally develops an excellent knowledge of the estate and can keep a watchful eye on things when required.

Key requirements

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced professional gardener with strong practical horticultural knowledge and, ideally, previous experience caring for substantial private gardens, estates or high-quality residential properties.

Knowledge of Mediterranean planting and gardening in a warm climate would be particularly advantageous.

The successful candidate will be practical, proactive and observant, with high standards and the ability to work independently. Discretion and trustworthiness are essential given the private nature of the property.

Spanish and English language skills are highly desirable, enabling the gardener to communicate comfortably with both the British principal and local contractors and suppliers.

While candidates already based in Mallorca are warmly encouraged to apply, the client is equally open to considering exceptional candidates elsewhere in the Balearic Islands or wider Europe and is prepared to relocate the right person for the position.
